Taza Chocolate

Taza Chocolates are made from stone ground, organic, direct trade, bean to bar artisanal dark chocolate.

Inspired by the traditional Mexico-style, the simplicity of stone grinding chocolate brings out bright, bold flavors and a unique texture to their chocolate bars and disks. Their Chocolate Mexicano disks can be used to make a luxurious and rich, delicious cup of hot chocolate or eaten as is. The stone ground dark chocolate bars are a delicious treat that can be enjoyed at any time. It seems the chocolate is lightly roasted so a lot of fruity flavors comes through in the taste.

At Nolita Mart we carry the Salted Almond Chocolate Mexicano disks and Puro Cacao Chocolate Mexicano disk for $4.99 and 80% Stone Ground Chocolate Bar and the 70% Stone Ground Chocolate Bar for $6.99.

“Founded in 2006, Taza Chocolate was born out of a desire to combine the Mesoamerican tradition of chocolate with a modern, high-quality product manufactured in a socially responsible way.”

“The Taza Chocolate Story

At the Taza Chocolate Factory in Somerville, Mass, we craft stone ground chocolate from bean to bar.  Our story began when Taza founder Alex Whitmore took his first bite of stone ground chocolate while traveling in Oaxaca, Mexico, and came home so inspired that he decided to start a chocolate factory.  Fueled by a passion for Mexican chocolate traditions, he learned to hand-carve the granite millstones that we use today to grind cacao into rustic, organic dark chocolate that bursts with bright, bold flavor and texture.

Through our Direct Trade Certified Cacao program, Taza cultivates face-to-face relationships with farmers. By working together directly, we can source the highest quality cacao possible, while paying our farmers a premium above the Fair Trade cacao price.”
